Audubon Response to USDA, National Fish & Wildlife Foundation $40 Million Partnership

Today, the USDA and the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation announced a $40 million partnership for restoration planning in the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem in response to the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill. Each organization will pledge $20 million with up to an additional $30 million available in the next four years.

National Audubon Society’s VP of the Mississippi Flyway and Gulf Coast Chris Canfield issued the following statement:

“This monumental partnership is an encouraging sign of the cooperation and dedication present on all sides with a stake in restoring this unique ecosystem. We commend both the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and the Natural Resources Conservation Service for their continued restoration and conservation efforts. These restoration efforts will significantly improve habitat for the shorebirds, wading birds and Neotropical migrants Gulf Coast citizens have come to know and love.”
