The Bahamas National Trust was created by an Act of Parliament in 1959. The efforts of two groups of conservationists, one of which being the National Audubon Society, brought about the
drafting and passing of the Act. The Bahamas National Trust is the only known non-governmental organization in the world with the mandate to manage a country's entire national park system. There are 25 National Parks in the Bahamas encompassing more than 700,000 acres.
