Audubon President David Yarnold Comments on Clean Air Act

“The U.S. Senate has given all Americans good reason to be heartened and hopeful. A majority stood up for clean air. They rejected the cynical, shortsighted assault that’s raging in the Capitol - threatening vital environmental protections that safeguard public health.

“It’s too soon to celebrate, however. It’s true that none of the ill-conceived amendments voted on yesterday got a clear majority. But there are still too many Senators who are more committed to protecting polluters than to protecting the health of the American people. We can be sure that they will continue their attacks on clean air and the health of American families.

“Just last week, more than 300 of Audubon’s chapters throughout the country sent a clear message to Washington, by sending a letter urging their Senators to stand firm behind the Clean Air Act and the essential protection it provides. Yesterday’s vote shows that enough Senators heard them and the many other Americans concerned about a healthy future for their children and grandchildren. We urge the Congress to keep listening to these responsible, common sense voices - and to dismiss misguided attempts to undermine fundamental environmental protections. Instead, it’s time to make strides toward a clean energy future."
