Issues & Action

Because we are linked not only to the National Audubon Society, but also to the 9 local chapters in Arkansas, we have a strong network to call upon when we want to support legislation or public policy that aligns with Audubon’s mission and values.

We encourage you to not only learn about the important conservation issues facing Arkansas today – and our work on them – but also to participate and make your opinions known to your local, state and federal leaders.

Audubon Arkansas policy priorities:

Audubon Arkansas’s policy department works to ensure Arkansas’ great natural heritage endures for generations.

Building a culture of conservation

To keep to our mission Audubon Arkansas needs sustained public support and public funding from communities who care about wildlife protection. For this reason, we will continue to pursue opportunities to promote educational and advocacy programs across the state and in our new Audubon Center. Audubon Arkansas provides programs and partnerships that further empower the community with information on how to be active in conservation issues. Our mission will never be realized until it becomes the mission of our entire community.

Promote progressive and well planned energy policy that reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and alleviate Arkansas’ contribution to global warming.

Audubon Arkansas global warming work entails fighting coal, promoting energy efficiency, promoting renewable energy, and promoting cap and trade legislation.

Push for water policies that promote responsible stewardship of waterways and watersheds.

Audubon Arkansas strives to conserve and restore natural ecosystems. No where is this more important than in our waterways. A main objective of Audubon is protecting habitat on-the-ground by restoring ecosystems. Our work will be futile if Arkansas does not create a state wide water policy plan that will protect these precious ecosystems. Therefore, Audubon works with legislators, government agencies, and community leaders to develop water policy and procedures that benefit the environment and the economy.
