Central Florida Ecosystem
Rapid growth is changing Central Florida.
Current projections suggest that the population and developed
areas may more than double by 2050. Without effective policies
to guide the growth and protect the environment, this region
will lose much of the nature that makes it so special.
Audubon was founded in Central Florida
in March of 1900. More than a century of conservation accomplishments
can be credited to Audubon leaders, past and present. Many
of the state’s most important environmental laws, and
the public support for its landmark environmental land acquisition
programs, resulted from Audubon leadership.
Audubon, the state’s oldest and
most effective conservation organization, is strengthening
its commitment to conserve the best of what is left of this
very special place. A key element in Audubon’s statewide
effort is the emerging Central Florida Ecosystems Program
described here.

the Central Florida Ecosystem Program’s regional
policy goals and about the program
components to be implemented and utilized to successfully
accomplish these goals.
