Where: Along
the Souris River in north-central North Dakota, about
30 miles northwest of Minot.
Habitat:
Set in the heart of the nation's prairie pothole
country, or "duck factory," the refuge has 32,084 acres
of wetlands and prairie grasslands.
Wildlife: Tundra
swans, white pelicans, and lesser snow geese mingle
with 50,000 ducks, including pintails, gadwalls, and
canvasbacks. The prairies provide vital habitat for
beleaguered grassland bird species, including Sprague's
pipits, upland sandpipers, and Baird's and
Le Conte's sparrows.

Birdwatching, hiking, cross-country skiing, canoeing,
fishing, berrypicking.
