Ambassador Hector E. Morales Jr., Ambassador Hector E. Morales, Jr. is Senior Advisor at Macquarie Capital, providing guidance on investment opportunities and financing for infrastructure projects in Latin America as well as interactions with governments in the region.
Ambassador Morales has over 20 years of experience in Latin America as an executive, lawyer, and diplomat, and holds the unique distinction of having served as a political appointee at the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)—the two preeminent multilateral institutions in the Western Hemisphere. From 2008–2009, Ambassador Morales served as the United States Permanent Representative to the OAS. While at the OAS, he represented Presidents Bush and Obama during the negotiations for the Fifth Summit of the Americas. From 2003– 2008, Morales served as U.S. Executive Director to the IDB , the leading source of development financing for Latin America and the Caribbean with a capitalization of over $170 billion.
Prior to his government service, Ambassador Morales held various senior executive roles for US companies including President and General Manager of Reliant Energy Argentina. Prior to joining Reliant Energy (now NRG), Ambassador Morales practiced as a corporate attorney in Texas. In addition to his work for Macquarie, Ambassador Morales serves as a strategic advisor to the law firm of Baker & McKenzie in Washington, D.C. Ambassador Morales also serves on the advisory boards of the Inter-American Foundation, the Woodrow Wilson Center Latin America Program, and Proyecto Mirador. Ambassador Morales received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and his B.A. from Columbia University.
