Dusky-headed Parakeet
A simple vista
11' (28 cm). Adult has two features that distinguish it from others of its kind: its large white orbital eye ring and its dull gray head. Sometimes a blue collar may be seen. The overall body color is green with dark blue outer secondary and primary feathers. In flight, from below, these appear black, and the under parts a lighter green to yellow. The bill is black and the iris are yellow. Gray legs. Like many in this family it is a social bird and may commonly be found in small groups or in flocks up to 100 birds.

Hábitat
Wooded habitats in the western Amazon Basin. It prefers semi-open habitats such as várzea ("flooded forests" in Portuguese, a low-lying, seasonally flooded region of the central Amazon), forest edges and forest remnants in open savannahs. It has also been found in coffee plantations.

Typically in a tree or in arboreal termite nests with no additional nesting material. Female incubates two to six white eggs for 21-23 days.
