The complexity of the estuary system will necessitate further work for boundary delineation. Roughly, the Coos River Estuary, dry sand beach, adjacent marshes and lowland roosting and feeding sites comprise the Coos River Estuary IBA.

Ornithological Summary

The Coos River estuary hosts tens to hundreds of thousands of waterfowl during winter and migration periods, and tens of thousands of shorebirds of many species during spring and fall migration. This IBA also includes the North Spit Snowy Plover Critical Habitat area.
