This site was chosen as an IBA because it met the criteria for Common Moorhen.
Conservation Issues
The biggest threat is that water levels at the site are often pumped down dramatically during August and late summer when many Pied-billed Grebes and other birds are still breeding there.

Land Use
The site is most actively managed for fishing and waterfowl hunting in the fall. About 50 campsites are also available on Walker Island.
