Piedmont abandoned farmland, bottomland hardwoods along the Flint River.

Ornithological Summary

Joe Kurz WMA is one of the best sites in the Piedmont for "old field"/early succession habitat. The WMA contains extensive patches of this habitat type, and the surrounding landscape is also rich in this habitat. Since many grassland birds are area sensitive, this is an excellent area to find these species, some in abundance. The site also contains a large wetlands area along the Flint River, which has Swainson's Warblers.
