Kanaga Island is one of the relatively large islands in the Andreanof Islands group in the western Aleutian Islands.

Ornithological Summary

There are two colonies on the main islands (Deceit Point with 2,646 birds, and Kanaga Island with 20,770 birds) and one small colony on the small island at the western tip of the main island. Tufted Puffins account for more than 70% of the colony, and Horned Puffins for 22%. The total number of Black Oystercatchers (nesting?) on the island approaches 1% of their global population.

Potential for pollution associated with transporation of oil products, seabird bycatch in fisheries, and decline in availibility of food resources due to global climate change.
