This site includes a series of forested tracts surrounding Lake George,
most of which are administered by the NYS DEC or owned by The
Nature Conservancy. The numerous outcroppings and cliffs located
within this site make it suitable for Peregrine Falcon nesting.
This area is one of the most unique nesting Peregrine Falcon areas in
the state, due to the relatively high number of nesting pairs surrounding
a relatively small lake. Over the past ten years, the number of nesting
Peregrine Falcons has grown from two to six pairs.
Recreational activities can disturb nesting peregrines; NYS DEC posts
protection signs at select nesting locations. The Nature Conservancy
and the Lake George Land Trust are active in acquiring critical
habitats, including a recent acquisition at Rogers Rock.
