Lake Umbagog is located in northeastern NH on the border of Maine. At roughly 8500 acres, it is the largest undeveloped lake in NH (40% of its shoreline is in Maine and is equally undeveloped). The IBA includes the largest freshwater wetland complex in NH, including several prominent rivers and their associated oxbow wetlands and riparian habitat, numerous islands, and several extensive black spruce-tamarack bogs and associated wetlands. Part of this IBA extends into the state of Maine to maintain its ecological integrity.
