Supports an annual concentration of Redheads and other diving ducks each October-November.

Conservation Issues

Botulism is an almost annual threat to Great Lakes waterbirds. Disturbance by boat traffic is a secondary concern.

Open water of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

Land Use

Sightseeing and ecotourism are primary uses, esp. Mackinac bridge and St. Ignace areas. Shipping channel runs along the south border of the IBA directly under the bridge.
