The Miners and Flat Creeks IBA has the most old growth western hemlock stands within the Wallace Ranger District. Approximately 60 percent of this IBA is in old growth mature stands.

Ornithological Summary

This site supports many species that are dependent on mature and old growth forests. Northern Goshawks and Pileated Woodpeckers are quite common here.

Conservation Issues

Past harvest activities have resulted in noticeable habitat fragmentation. However, a large amount of old growth still remains and a high percentage of the site has been allocated for preserving old growth. There have also been road closures in the area to cut down on access to the area.

Habitat

Old growth western hemlock habitat types, and several riparian areas.
