A high quality Great Lakes coastal bulrush marsh, on the shores of Big Bay de Noc.

Ornithological Summary

Supports one of the state's largest remaining breeding colonies of the rare Black Tern.

Conservation Issues

Mute Swans were observed in 2011 removing the floating bulrush mats on which Black Terns nest, for use in their own nests. This removed the primary nesting mat available for Black Terns. Mute Swan removal may be required to eliminate this threat. (Bill Rollo, MDNR, private correspondence)
