Open water nearshore areas from northern Arenac County to Tawas Point State Park.

Ornithological Summary

Supports a large concentration of diving ducks during fall and early winter, and again in spring. Dominant species are Redhead in fall and Long-tailed Ducks in spring.

Conservation Issues

Disturbance by kite surfers near the tip of Tawas Point is becoming a serious threat to loafing waterbirds. No other immediate threats known, though wind turbines could become a threat at any time.

Open water of Lake Huron.

Primarily recreational (kite surfing, fishing, boating, hunting).
