Siuslaw River Estuary

The Siuslaw River enters the Pacific Ocean near Florence, on the central Oregon coast, Lane County. This IBA includes submerged lands, tidelands, and lower salt marshes of the Siuslaw River from Duncan Inlet downstream to the mouth of the river.

Ornithological Summary

Greater than 1000 shorebirds, mostly peeps (Calidris spp., e.g., Western Sandpiper), have been found here during spring and fall migrations (Page et al. 1992, Bayer and Lowe 1988), and there has been at least one winter count of >1,000 shorebirds (Page et al. 1992).
