Ornithological Summary

Supports (as of 2009) very good numbers of Black-backed Woodpeckers and Spruce Grouse.

Conservation Issues

Future lack of fire could reduce habitat for Black-backed Woodpeckers (they vacate burns about 2-3 years post fire). Other threats unknown.

A composite of Newberry State Forest (Michigan Department of Natural Resources, FMFM Division) and privately-owned land.

Land Use

Very remote area with few residents. Mostly inaccessible with forestry dominating land use.
