Primarliy privately-owned forest tracts flanking the St. Joseph River between Union City and Colon.

Ornithological Summary

Kayak surveys in 1999 and 2000 documented between 14 and 21 pairs of the Cerulean Warbler using this site.

Conservation Issues

This IBA is a matrix of small, privately-owned plots, which makes them susceptible to improper management and loss of mature canopy forest. Increased market value of corn for ethanol production may provide an incentive for landowners to remove trees.

Land Use

Fishing within the river is common, and agricultural use of adjoining fields is very prevalent as well.
