Duck Dynasty

Adam Grimm in a Ghillie suit that he uses for camoflauge as he photographs the wild ducks in Eureka, South Dakota. Wild ducks are extremely wary of humans and will not come anywhere near a human who they can see.

Wild ducks take off from an open body of water that Adam Grimm and Tim Taylor had set up to photograph the birds. Adam uses a Canon camera with a 500mm lens that he adds a converter to extend the telephoto lens. Tim will often walk around to scare the ducks and force them closer to Adam so that he can get the perfect shot that he wants.

Adam Grimm and his daughter Madison pose for a picture in Adam's painting studio in his home in South Dakota. Adam and his daughter both won their respective categories of the 2014-2015 Federal Duck Stamp competition. Adam takes thousands of images of wild ducks in their environment and then makes composite images in photoshop of a variety of scenes which he then paints a highly realistic piainting that gets entered into the competition. Madison also painted her picture but the validity of her entry was questioned and the competition judges at first took away her award. They investigated some more and the award was reinstated and she's the winner for this year's competition in her age group.

While Adam Grimm rows the John boat Tim Taylor throws the duck decoys into the water. In mid-April there was still ice on the water.

After a long day of photographing ducks Adam Grimm puts his duck decoys in his truck in Eureka, South Dakota. Brian Davis, who's doing a documentary about the Federal Duck Stamp Competition is standing in the background. Grimm paints all the decoys by hand that they use to lure the wild ducks close enough to capture the 'perfect' shot.
