Getting to Hog Island Audubon Camp

A useful guide to help you soar to Hog Island with ease.

Hog Island Audubon Camp is located a quarter mile offshore from the Todd Wildlife Sanctuary's mainland parcel. While the island is open to the public, there is no public boat launch from Todd Wildlife Sanctuary. Moorings for visitors not participating in camp programming are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Guests must park at the top of the hill near our offices. Parking at the Hog Island dock is reserved for staff. Campers are shuttled to Hog Island by boat.

Via Public Transportation: Ride-share services like Uber and Lyft are not available in our area. Be sure to have a clear plan for getting to and from the Hog Island Dock.

  • Logan International Airport (BOS) is approximately 3 hours from Bremen by car.
  • Manchester Boston Regional Airport (MHT) is approximately 3 hours from Bremen by car.

Via Train: The Amtrak Downeaster line runs from Boston North Station to Brunswick, Maine. Brunswick is about 1 hour from Bremen, Maine, by car.

Options for traveling from Portland or Boston

This bus service with Concord Coach Lines is very dependable and affordable. However, it only leaves once a day, so plan accordingly! The bus departs Logan Airport at 10:35 am and the Portland Transportation Center (about a 5-minute cab ride from PWM) at 1:15 pm. It arrives in Damariscotta, ME at 2:45 pm.

The southbound bus departs from Damariscotta at 9:35 am daily. Hog Island staff will transport you to and from Damariscotta for your bus if you choose this option. Notify staff during the registration process if you will utilize this shuttle.

Rent a car at the airport and drive yourself. This allows time to explore the rest of the mid-coast before or after your week at Hog Island! There are a lot of amazing things to see and do in the area that are only accessible by car.

Charter a ride from Country Coach Charters, Sterling Elite, or another private charter company. These services pick you up and drop you off right at the Hog Island dock. Contact your preferred charter company for pricing and to schedule your transportation.
