Birds of Rio Salado

Meet some of the birds that you might see when visiting Rio Salado.

Experience Year-Round Birding at Rio Salado

Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area is home to over 200 bird species, from tiny hummingbirds to camouflaged towhees. Both year-round residents and migratory visitors rely on its wetlands, mesquite bosque, and cottonwood–willow forest for food, shelter, and nesting.

The Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center invites visitors to explore this urban oasis through guided bird walks, wildlife programs, and hands-on conservation. Trails and observation areas provide up-close opportunities to see birds in their natural habitats, learn about their behaviors, and connect with the desert river ecosystem that sustains them.
