Perissodactyls, Artiodactyls, and Theropods! Oh My! You might think we’re learning about dinosaurs this week. Well, almost. This week is all about understanding more about our farm animal ambassadors and the products they provide. Campers will be visiting and helping tend to the “ungulates” (hoofed mammals such as horses, cows, goats, sheep and pigs). Some are odd-toed (perissodactyls) and some are even-toed (artiodactyls). Then they are those chickens, descendants of theropod dinosaurs, that come complete with “spurs”! We will collect some chicken eggs for an “Eggciting Eggventure” where we create containers for our first Aullwood Egg Drop Challenge! Farm activities include loom weaving, making butter and ice cream, stall mucking, and taking a wagon ride around the pastures. As part of participating in our Habitat Hikers, each camper gets their own T-shirt and backpack. Campers will track their hiking miles with special charms and earn different "backpack bling" for every week they attend.

There’s something “fishy” about this week. Calling all Jr. Ichthyologists, as a scientist that studies fish you’ll want to grab your water gear and come join us to explore the magic of water and water creatures. Try your hand at casting with a fishing rod to see what you can catch. Play water games, use nets to catch aquatic insects, learn about the water cycle, explore Allwood’s different water habitats and best of all-get WET!! I mean soaked to the bone wet. Wear clothes that can get wet, muddy or soapy as you increase what you know about our Creek Critters. As part of participating in our Habitat Hikers, each camper gets their own T-shirt and backpack.
