Welcome to Francis Beidler Forest Audubon Center and Sanctuary! Our center lies in the heart of Four Holes Swamp that encompasses 1800 of original growth Cypress - Tupelo swamp connected to the Edisto River system. Some of the trees in this original growth system are over 1000 years old! To explore this incredible time capsule we have an ADA compliant boardwalk that loops through 1.75 miles of this habitat, which otherwise is nearly impossible to navigate on foot, giving visitors a rare and unique perspective that is unmatched anywhere in the world.

Beidler Forest is home to many different species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, spiders, rare plants, and fungi. This untouched landscape has acted as safe harbor for many declining species, and has provided natural resource benefits to communities in South Carolina for generations. From improving water quality, storing flood waters, and providing refuge for escaped enslaved people from surrounding plantations, Beidler Forest has protected humans and wildlife alike for hundreds and thousands of years.
