Discover the beauty and wildlife of Rowe Sanctuary, a flagship National Audubon Society nature preserve along Nebraska’s Platte River. The sanctuary protects prime habitat for iconic bird species, including Sandhill and Whooping Cranes, and offers year-round opportunities to connect with nature. Visitors can explore the Iain Nicolson Audubon Center, enjoy miles of hiking trails and learn about local conservation efforts that help protect birds and the river-landscape they depend on.
Crane Season: February 15 - April 15
During crane season, we limit trail use to protect the birds from disturbance while roosting. Visitors should not plan to watch Sandhill Cranes on the river from Rowe Sanctuary Trails. Information about public viewing locations can be found here.
Outside of crane season, Rowe’s trails and parking lot are open from dawn to dusk every day.
