Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center

Located in southeast Nebraska, this 1,160-acre sanctuary is one of the largest intact tallgrass prairies in Nebraska. Visitors are welcome to explore miles of trails that wind through native stands of wildflowers and prairie grasses, around wetlands, and along wooded streams. Also on site are trail ruts from a mid-19th-century cutoff to the Oregon Trail that are in the National Register of Historic Places.  

The landscape is vital for the health and success of the many bird species and other wildlife that call the prairie home. Eastern and Western Meadowlarks, Bobolinks, Grasshopper Sparrows, Henslow’s Sparrows, and Dickcissels are just a few of the birds waiting to be discovered. Our habitat management staff and dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to ensure the native plants will continue to blossom for generations to come. 

The visitor center, open seven days a week with free admission, has interactive education exhibits, bathrooms, and a small nature store. There are accessible trails just outside the building’s doors, a picnic area, an outdoor bathroom, and a large parking lot for group tour buses.
