  • Free admission, no reservations required. Donations are appreciated to support our conservation and education mission.
  • Dogs, pets, and smoking are not permitted anywhere at the Center or on our trails. Service animals are welcome.
  • The grounds, trails, gardens, bathrooms, and Nature Play Area are all accessible during open hours. The visitor center is typically open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but we still have some gaps in our volunteer coverage. We appreciate your patience.
  • Parking is free but limited.
  • We are closed major holidays and the month of January. Please check our Events page for any planned closures ahead of your visit.
  • Check out the current weather at our center.  During winter months, hazardous driving conditions may force us to close for the day or to delay opening in the morning.
WINTER WEATHER: We follow Santa Fe Public Schools for winter weather delays and closures. Please note that our dirt road is often icy and snowpacked and takes longer to get plowed than other locations in Santa Fe. Four-wheel drive is recommended when the road is icy and snowy. If in doubt, please schedule your visit for another day.*
  • Please plan ahead if you plan to use a Rideshare app like Uber or Lyft. Some carriers do not have any cell phone service at the Center.
  • Our gardens are wheelchair accessible, but currently our larger trail system is not. At this time, we recommend that persons with mobility issues call ahead so that we can help accommodate handicapped parking and/or drop off.
Things To Do

Our trails lead through several different habitats and plant zones ranging from meadows to Ponderosa Pine forests. Bring your binoculars and cameras, but please leave your dogs at home.

Fridays at 2:00pm, $8.

Ticket sales and reservations through December 2025 are now available online.

Tours are limited to 12 people. First come first served.

Santa Fe’s only nature center has an unexpected artistic past.  Every Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. take a trip back in time and join a docent-led tour of the historic Davey House and Studio, preserved in its original state from the mid 1900’s. Keep an eye out for original furnishings, mural paintings and the prohibition-era hidden bar!

  • Please note that the house is not ADA accessible. If you have concerns about whether you or a member of your party will be able to negotiate the stairs, please call to discuss.  The length of the tours vary between 1–1/2 hours.
  • Special tours given at group rates. Please contact the Center for more information and to schedule: newmexico@audubon.org

Every Saturday at 8:30 AM, Free

Join us at the Randall Davey Audubon Center and Sanctuary every Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. for a guided bird walk led by experienced volunteer birders. The walk is one of the best ways to get to know the local birds. For both experienced and novice birders, you’re sure to discover new species and witness them in their natural habitat.  Binoculars are available to borrow. All experience levels welcome. No RSVP required

Check out our Haiku Trail, a series of poems written by local poets and community members. Each haiku was written in the spot where it was installed, referencing the natural elements of its unique location. This "trail" covers 0.25 miles, over mostly flagstone and brick pathways. The last few poems are up a few steps towards our acequia.

Our friendly volunteers are happy to share maps, birding tips, and help you navigate your visit. We also have a variety of gifts for sale, including bird guides, books, locally made artisan crafts, t-shirts, and more! The visitor center is typically open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but we still have some gaps in our volunteer coverage. We appreciate your patience.

The Nature Discovery Area is an outdoor play space for families, students, campers, and the community on the southern end of the property. The goal of this project is to provide Santa Fe families with a place to get outside and explore nature together. We hope that users will enjoy playing in the treehouse, as well as constructing forts, digging in the sand, wildlife viewing, having a picnic, exploring our  seed library,  and whatever else they can imagine.

The play area is currently open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Audubon Center and Discovery Area are closed on holidays and occasional special events.

While we love having you, your family events, and birthday parties at the Nature Discovery Area, there are times we are closed to due to private events, holidays, or maintenance. To avoid disappointment, we ask that if you please contact us at newmexico@audubon.org to confirm that the area is open on your chosen date, and also check our Facebook page or this website for closures.

  • Please pack out all your trash and food. There are no trashcans. Please remember you are visiting a wildlife sanctuary, and any trash or food crumbs are risks to the bears, deer, foxes, bobcats, and birds that live here.
  • Please supervise and support your children. This area is intended for outdoor exploration, where kids can play, learn about nature, and move their bodies. There are different levels of challenge and risk throughout the space. Children should be supervised at all times while visiting the NDA.

We have worked with a handful of amazing, creative contractors to develop the NDA including Groundwork StudioBonsai Design, and Westwind Landscape Construction. The treehouse construction was completed by Bonsai Design in July 2021. This project was made possible by a variety of community members who donated in support of nature play. Major support comes from the Brindle Foundation, Dumke Foundation, and more. We are still raising funds to help finalize additional play elements, as well as support public programming in the space. If you’d like to be a part of this project, please contact our development manager, Suzy Santaella, at suzy.santaella@audubon.org
