Are you excited for the solar eclipse on April 8th? The Green Mountain Audubon Center lies in the path of totality! The moon will appear to completely cover the sun for approximately two minutes and forty seconds from 3:26:40 PM to 3:29:20 PM.
Audubon Vermont is not organizing any eclipse programming. Our Visitor Center will be CLOSED on April 8th, to allow our staff to enjoy this rare celestial event. But our trails will remain open to the public for Eclipse Day. Bathroom facilities will not be available.
If you are planning to view the eclipse from Green Mountain Audubon Center, potential viewing locations include the field by our sugarhouse, the meadow trails at Peeper Pond, and the fields along River Trail East.
Tips for Eclipse Viewing at Audubon
- Please park only in designated lots, keep pets leashed, and leave no trace. You can review our full list of Center Policies here.
- Be preparred for muddy and/or icy trails and wear appropriate footwear. Please avoid walking around muddy patches as this widens our trails and damages vegetation.
- Ticks are already out! Be sure to wear protective clothing (like pants and long socks) and check yourself when you get home.
- Don't forget your eclipse glasses or solar viewer to protect your eyes! You can donate your glasses after the eclipse for reuse with CWSD.
- Consider bringing a journal to record your Eclipse Day observations! You can even contribute to citizen sciences projects with NASA and SciStarter.
