NEW YORK – The National Audubon Society announced the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors: Dr. Marcia Angle, a retired preventive medicine physician and environmentalist, and Mr. Greg Giesler, senior managing director of Enterprise Operations and Profitability at Accenture, PLC who has a commitment to protecting the environment.
Dr. Angle and Mr. Giesler join as Audubon is continuing its 120-year history of building a more resilient and sustainable future for birds, people, and the planet. Birds are leading indicators of the health of the natural world, warning us about environmental change and inspiring us to action. Having just marked the midpoint of its five-year strategy, called Flight Plan, Audubon is redoubling its efforts to respond to the interconnected crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. This work is driven by the understanding that what is good for birds is good for the planet.
“Birds are both symbols and sentinels of the health of our planet. When birds decline, it signals changes in the natural world that affect us all,” said Dr. Elizabeth Gray, CEO of the National Audubon Society. “This is why Audubon is working to bend the bird curve — to halt and ultimately reverse the steep decline of birds across the Americas. Realizing this vision requires strong leadership across the organization, including at the Board level. We are fortunate to welcome Marcia and Greg, whose experience and perspective will help accelerate this work.”
“I am pleased to welcome Marcia and Greg to the Audubon Board of Directors as we work to advance conservation for birds, the planet, and for all of us,” said Dr. George S. Golumbeski, Chair of the Audubon Board of Directors. “Today, as our world faces dual threats of climate change and habitat loss, Marcia and Greg’s leadership will help us guide Audubon’s work to leverage the power of birds to drive lasting conservation impact across the hemisphere. All our considerable scientific understanding of birds tells us that we must act now to protect the well-being of the natural world.”
Dr. Marcia Angle is a retired preventive medicine physician and environmentalist whose work focuses on the intersection of public health, environmental protection, and policy. Her career has spanned international health, conservation, and nonprofit governance, with a particular emphasis on science-informed decision making and cross-border collaboration. Dr. Angle is a longtime supporter of conservation causes, with a strong interest in biodiversity and environmental stewardship. She currently serves on the Boards of Nature and Culture International and the Southern Environmental Law Center. Her prior Board service includes NatureServe, Rachel’s Network, Nourish International, the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation and other national and regional environmental organizations. Through her professional and philanthropic work, Dr. Angle has extensive experience across the Western Hemisphere and is fluent in Spanish. She resides in Durham, North Carolina.
“Joining Audubon is the right opportunity for me to continue to support environmental progress,” said Dr. Angle. “I value Audubon’s conservation work—especially its focus on science, policy, and community building to illustrate the connection between the health of birds and the health of people and the planet. I look forward to making meaningful contributions to this mission.”
Greg Giesler serves as Senior Managing Director of Enterprise Operations and Profitability at Accenture, PLC, a $70 billion organization with 780,000 employees worldwide. His passion for conservation and determination to give back to the planet brought him to Audubon. He has global experience, including in Latin America, executing growth strategies, profit optimization, cost takeout, and cost restructuring. Mr. Giesler serves on advisory Boards for national industry-related nonprofits, including the American Institute of CPAs and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants’ Future Finance Leaders Advisory Group, and NABA, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to empowering Black business leaders in accounting, finance, business, and entrepreneurship. As part of NABA, he launched and now chairs the Board’s M&A committee and received NABA’s Chief Officer of the Year award. He is also a member of the Association of Latino Professionals and the Institute of Management Accountants. He is a Louisiana native who now resides in Washington, D.C.
“I’m enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve on Audubon’s Board of Directors, and in so doing, give back to conservation work across the Western Hemisphere,” said Mr. Geisler. “Audubon is doing important work to achieve a future where birds thrive—a future where all of us thrive—and I’m proud to be part of that.”
