Closing Crane Season 2026: A Poem of Reflection

By Sylvia Anne Marchetti, Rowe Sanctuary volunteer
sandhill cranes resting

Softly, delicately
You weave the
Strands
Laden with
Gratitude, awareness, kindness
Over your
Beloved Braided River

A gesture of reciprocity
And knowing
Honoring the one
Who welcomes you
And receives you as none other

Tender caresses of love and joy
Spun into every strand
Wafting over the braids
Settling into the sparkling
Ever shifting sands
Who hold your foot prints
Forever visible to soul eyes

Waters laughing back
Receiving this offering
Droplets of love
Delivered by the few
Tasked with closing the space
For the many who came

The prairie holding the river
Who held the cranes
For yet another season
Sings softly to herself
While the sky dances
Exuberantly
