Also called Mabí, Soldierwood, and Nakedwood, this evergreen, perennial shrub or small tree reaches 15 to 20 feet tall, sometimes up to 40 feet. It grows in full sun to partial shade, and in moist to dry, sand and limestone soils. The unique, star-shaped, yellow-green flowers attract butterflies, bees, and birds.
