Start here and take steps to improve forest habitat for birds, other wildlife, recreation, and more.
When we speak to a landowner, one of the first questions we ask is - what are your goals for your forest?
One of the top answers is "enhancing wildlife habitat," which aligns perfectly with Audubon's goal of halting - and reversing - bird population declines. Eastern forest breeding birds have experienced a -27% population loss since 1970, as we have lost a significant amount of quality habitat due to forest fragmentation, interfering or invasive vegetation, deer overabundance, and climate stressors.
As a forest landowner, you can help! Audubon is committed to helping you create quality habitat that benefits a suite of forest birds - and suits your additional goals for your forest.
Our forest program staff are happy to support forest landowners with questions about actively managing your land, especially those who manage property within a "Priority Forest Areas" (shown in green). You can fill out our Landowner Assistance Form, and we'll do our best to be in touch in 2-3 weeks.
