115th CBC Summary of Highest Counts of Individuals for Canada

Canadian counts reported 305 species on the 115th Christmas Bird Count, a new record and up 14 from last year.  Three additional species (Loggerhead Shrike, Blue-headed Vireo and Yellow Warbler) were seen only during count week.  Three species (boldfaced below) are new to the cumulative Canadian Christmas count list:  Tennessee Warbler (Peel-Halton Counties, ON), Black-throated Green Warbler (Cape Sable Island, NS) and Eurasian Tree Sparrow (Winnipeg, MB and Niagara Falls, ON).  The Canadian list now stands at 431.  British Columbia led the high count tally with 146 species, followed by Ontario with 82, and Nova Scotia with 43.  Ladner, BC had the highest number for a single count with 34, followed by Victoria, BC (22), Halifax-Darmouth, NS (14), Cape Sable Island, NS (11) and Vancouver, BC (10).  Thirty-two of the high counts are all-time Canadian highs (numbers boldfaced below).  Species in italics indicate those totals (62 species and forms) that are high counts for North America as well as Canada.  Exotic species and hybrids are not included in this list.
