Audubon Events Marking Earth Day 2026

Centers, state offices, and chapters across the Audubon network are marking Earth Day on and around April 22.

Each year, Audubon staff and local chapters bring communities together on and around Earth Day to celebrate birds and wildlife. From volunteer cleanups to bird walks and family-friendly events, these programs help inspire people to help protect the planet in their own communities.

With 15 state and regional offices, 31 centers, 29 sanctuaries, and over 400 community and campus chapters, Audubon offers programs that connect people to birds and nature throughout the year.

Virtual

Build A Bird Habitat Webinar: Design Your Bird Habitat Garden—Virtual (April 21, 2026, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.)
Join experts from Audubon Mid-Atlantic and Herring Run Nursery to learn how to design a bird-friendly oasis. Come away with some examples of designed plant communities and the best species for attracting birds and butterflies, while also being beautiful for people. This is the third of a four-part webinar series about building a bird habitat for your home or community. Each session covers a different topic around bird-friendly garden design and planting. 

Arizona

Earth Day Festival & Volunteer Day—Phoenix, AZ (April 11, 2026, 7:45 a.m. 2 p.m. MT)
Celebrate Earth Day at the Rio Salado Audubon Center with a day dedicated to nature, sustainability, and people working to protect our environment. Join the early bird habitat restoration activity, or just participate in the festival with guided bird walks in the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area and food, music, crafts, and family-friendly activities. Explore volunteer and internship opportunities, check out live animal presentations, or join a workshop with Audubon, Arizona Sustainability Alliance, and American Forests.

California

Family Nature Day at Richardson Bay Audubon—Tiburon, CA (May 2, 2026, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. PT)
Join Richardson Bay Audubon in partnership with WildCare for a Family Nature Day honoring Elizabeth Terwilliger. Go on a naturalist-led hike, create a wildlife themed craft, take the adventure challenge, dissect an owl pellet, use binoculars to watch birds from the patio of the historic Lyford House, meet live non-releasable wildlife, and much more.

Connecticut

Earth Day Trash Cleanup—Sharon, CT (April 25, 2026, 10 a.m. ET)
Join Sharon Audubon Center and the Sharon Energy and Environmental Commission (SEEC) and volunteer to collect litter on the roadsides of town. This is a fun event and a great way to do something for the environment while getting fresh air and exercise. SEEC provides safety vests, garbage bags, and plastic gloves, and the Audubon Center might also provide a surprise for volunteers at the end!

Florida

Earth Day Puzzle Trail at Audubon Center for Birds of Prey—Maitland, FL (April 18 and 19, 2026, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. ET)
Visit the Audubon Center Birds of Prey the weekend before Earth Day for the Earth Day Puzzle Trail! This escape room experience will lead the player through a series of puzzles to learn about raptors and their threats. This activity is most appropriate for ages 12 and up but younger kids will enjoy it with some adult assistance. Included with admission!

Earth Day Community Celebration—St. Andrews, FL (April 18, 2026, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
Join Bay County Audubon Society (BCAS) and other organizations at the St. Andrew's Farmer's Market for the Annual Earth Day Celebration. The Earth Day Proclamation reading will begin at 11:45 a.m. Activities for the whole family include music and dancing, craft and food vendors, environment vendors, and a tree giveaway.

Iowa

Earth Day Fair—Decorah, IA (April 26, 2026, 9 a.m. – noon CT)
Find the Upper Iowa Audubon Society (UIAS) Booth at the annual Winneshiek County Fairgrounds Earth Day Fair, where you can explore the latest in recycling, composting, renewable energy, solar power, electric vehicles, native planting, wildlife habitat, conservation practices, and more!

Kentucky

Louisville Earth Fest—Louisville, KY (March 28, 2026, 1 – 5 p.m. ET)
Louisville Audubon Society will join the Louisville Metro Government Office of Sustainability, Parks Alliance of Louisville, and other partners to bring back Earth Fest, a Louisville Earth Month kickoff event. This community festival will feature food, music, performances, art, sustainability activities, and local resources - all in celebration of our planet.

Missouri

Little Creek Earth Day—Florissant, MO (April 18, 2026, 8 a.m. – noon CT)
Join Audubon Center at Riverlands staff at Little Creek’s annual Earth Day event for a morning of fun! This event will feature loads of local partners, hands-on activities, face painting, and more.

New York

Earth Day Weekend Marsh Volunteer Project—Garrison, NY (April 25, 2026, 9:30 a.m. - noon ET)    
Visit Constitution Marsh Audubon Center for an Earth Day volunteer project! Volunteers will remove invasive plants and take cuttings from native Dogwood trees to propagate and replant at the Rheinstrom Hill Audubon Sanctuary in Columbia County. After the planting event, volunteers are welcome to go on a nature hike down to Constitution Marsh's boardwalk to search for migrating spring birds and identify flora and fauna along the trail, as well as discuss how climate change is impacting the Hudson Valley Area. All ages, pre-registration is required.

MARSH! Invasive Honeysuckle Popping at Montezuma Audubon Center—Savannah, NY (April 22, 2026, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. ET)
All are welcome to volunteer with Audubon staff at the Montezuma Audubon Center to remove woody invasive honeysuckle from forested off-trail wildlife habitat! Participants will be given any and all tools necessary to dig out and/or cut back vegetation, and volunteers may take on additional roles of spreading native seeds and dragging dug up honeysuckle to form brush piles. Hydration will be available at all times and lunch will be provided by the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. Registration is required.

North Carolina

Earth Day 2026—Greensboro, NC (April 25, 2026, Noon – 4 p.m. ET)    
Join the T. Gilbert Pearson Audubon Society for bird/nature walks at this family friendly event organized by the City of Greensboro’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience. Showcasing organizations committed to nature conservation and sustainability,  the event saw over 3,000 visitors last year and will include a native plant giveaway, children's activities, and food trucks on site.

Ohio

Seeds of Caring Earth Day Event—Columbus, OH (April 18, 2026, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. ET)
Families and groups are invited to participate in multiple projects at Grange Insurance Audubon Center to help kids ages 2-12 take action in protecting our environment and investing in our planet’s future. Community partners will be on site to educate kids on environmental stewardship actions. Join us for a day of fun, education, and live music! 

Green Columbus Earth Day Event—Columbus, OH (April 26, 2026, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. ET)
Celebrate Earth Day with Green Columbus at Grange Insurance Audubon Center for this free, family-friendly, zero-waste event. Enjoy hands-on fun, learn about local sustainability efforts, and connect with organizations making a positive environmental impact in our community. Throughout the day Audubon educators will lead bird and tree walks to educate festival goers about local species within the park.

Aullwood's Native Plant Sale—Dayton, OH (April 24, 2026, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. ET)
One of the area’s largest and earliest of the season returns in 2026! Shop from more than 12,000 plants representing 181 species suited for prairie, wetland, and woodland habitats, including spring ephemerals, flowering plants, grasses, sedges, shrubs, and trees. Proceeds support Aullwood Audubon Center's environmental education and conservation programs. New this year, please bring your own boxes to carry and transport plants!

Pennsylvania

Nature Journaling at Mill Grove—Audubon, PA (April 19, 2026, 11 a.m.)    
Looking for a quiet, creative way to reconnect with nature and sharpen your observation skills? Nature Journaling invites you to use words and pictures to collect and record your observations and connections to the natural world. This immersive class teaches you to observe and record the living landscape shapes, textures, patterns, and seasonal changes found on the property at Mill Grove.

Earth Day Bird Walk—Williamsport, PA (April 22, 2026, 8 a.m. ET)
The Lycoming Audubon Society will begin Earth Day Celebrations with a Susquehanna Greenway partnered walk in the local preserved wetlands between Bald Eagle Mountain and the Susquehanna River. Walk the gently rolling landscape and search for a variety of bird species while learning about the vision and ongoing efforts for this special area.

Earth Day Over the Bridge—Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 22, 2026, 6 p.m. ET)
Fifty-six years ago, Earth Day was initiated as a national expression of appreciation for our planet. Join the Lycoming Audubon Society on the River Walk gathering on the north/ Wegman’s side, near the river dam. Ample parking available. Look for Audubon signs. With signs and flags, we’ll walk clockwise, cross Market Street bridge, and back. Thanks for adding your presence in this simple statement of celebrating our beautiful earth.    

Texas

Free Entry: Celebrate Earth Day and Native Plant Month—San Antonio, TX (April 18, 2026, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. CT)    
Get outside to celebrate Earth Day and Native Plant Month and enjoy free entry all day at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center. Take home native pollinator plant educational materials to learn what plants would work best in your space. Free native seed packets while supplies last!
