Acacia Johnson

Acacia Johnson is a photographer and writer from Anchorage, Alaska. Raised by an adventurous family of conservationists, she spent the first chapter of her career as a guide in the Arctic and Antarctica, where she made over 55 trips and learned more about birds than she had ever anticipated. Now a full-time photographer and a regular contributor to National Geographic, her work focuses on the environment, conservation, and the connections between people and place—particularly in the Arctic, where she has worked for over a decade.

From documenting Inuit hunting traditions on Baffin Island, to snow algae in Antarctica, to wildlife conservation in Alaska, Mexico, and beyond, Acacia uses photography, writing, and social media to bring stories about the natural world to global audiences. A TEDx speaker, a former Fulbright grantee, and a 2023 National Geographic Explorer, Acacia is passionate about the interconnectedness between people, the health of the natural world, and all the beings that inhabit it.
