Bessmarie (Bess) Moses serves as Vice President of People and Culture at the National Audubon Society. In this role she is a strategic advisor to senior leadership while guiding the People and Culture functions that strengthen workplace culture, performance, development, and well-being in service of Audubon’s mission and organizational effectiveness. Reporting to the Chief People and Culture Officer, she oversees and mentors a multidisciplinary team supporting Audubon’s geographically distributed workforce.
Prior to Audubon, Bess served as Chief People Officer at Streetsense and previously held dual roles as Chief Human Resources Officer and Director of Operations at E&E News, where she built and scaled the HR and Operations functions and helped guide the organization through its acquisition by POLITICO. She has led and transformed People, HR, and Operations functions across several mission-driven and media organizations; and holds multiple professional certifications in human resources, leadership, and organizational development.
Originally from California, Bess enjoys cooking, engaging with the arts and literature, and spending time outdoors with her husband and two children. She is happiest when those interests intersect, whether on a trail, in a museum, or around a table. She believes strong cultures are built through clarity, trust, and shared accountability—and that people do their best work when they feel supported, challenged, and connected to purpose.
