Caleb is the Water Policy Fellow for Audubon Southwest where he works to promote projects and policies that protect natural ecosystems and the water they need for humans and birds.
In addition to his fellowship, Caleb is pursuing a master’s degree in water, society, and policy at the University of Arizona. His work in water policy began with an internship at the City of Flagstaff, where he helped analyze and draft an ordinance to manage the development of water-intensive industries. Now, during his final semester at U of A, Caleb is researching how public water utilities across Arizona are adapting to changes in water resources.
Caleb’s interest in water resources stems from his nine years living in Flagstaff, Arizona where he earned a bachelor’s degree in geology and worked as a rafting guide in the Grand Canyon. Witnessing the decrease of flows on the Colorado River first-hand inspired Caleb to pursue a career water policy. His goal is to protect natural waterways in the Southwest and support sustainable and equitable water resource management.
In his free time, Caleb enjoys running, skiing, and playing banjo. Although he no longer guides rafting trips full-time, Caleb still loves being on rivers whenever possible – especially in desert canyons where he can hear his favorite bird: the Canyon Wren.
