Jackson Day

Jackson has lived in Ojai, California, and Rockport, Maine, and has travelled and spent time in Australia, Yucatan, and the Georgia republic, where he was interested in learning about language, culture, history, and traditional music. He attended college at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, studying a wide range of liberal arts and environmental sciences, and graduated from College of the Atlantic in 2021 with a bachelor’s of arts degree in Human Ecology. At College of the Atlantic he got involved in the traditional skills outdoor program and led a canoeing trip for new students his second year there. He went on after graduating to work as an outdoor educator, instructor, and naturalist both in California and in Maine.

Jackson has a strong connection to the Maine island environments, as he has spent every summer on Swans Island, Maine, and particularly loves sailing to and from Swans Island, Rockport, and other islands. He is a part of running the Sweet Chariot Folk Music Festival with his parents on Swans Island out of several historic island houses and buildings. He wants to bring to Audubon his care for Maine island environments and the ongoing project to keep historic Maine buildings and natural spaces well cared for, and he is excited to share the appreciation of birds and conservation at Hog Island.
