Julie Shapiro is the Vice President for Audubon’s Rockies region.
She brings more than 20 years of experience in natural resource and environmental policy, strategy, and management. Throughout her career, she has worked with diverse partners to drive collaborative action across government, the private sector, nonprofits, and research institutions, from the local to international level.
Julie joins the National Audubon Society after working with the Keystone Policy Center for more than 18 years, where she advanced collaborative, nonpartisan, evidence-based solutions to complex natural resource and environmental challenges. Her work brought together diverse sectors, communities, and perspectives to address issues ranging from wildlife and habitat conservation to forest and wildfire resilience, water and watershed health, working lands and agricultural sustainability, and public lands management.
Prior to Keystone Policy Center, Julie spent several years as an outdoor and natural science educator at Walking Mountains Science School in Avon, Colorado. She holds bachelor's degrees in English and Geosciences from Williams College and a Master of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder.
Outside of work, Julie enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, daughter, and dog, hiking, skiing, camping, and floating throughout the Rockies. The high mountains of the Rockies are also where she can spot her favorite bird, the Western Tanager, during their breeding season.
