Keith Fisk joined Audubon Great Plains in 2026 as a Range Ecologist in central South Dakota. He provides technical assistance to landowners and producers to enhance grasslands through Audubon’s Working Lands programs. Keith grew up in eastern South Dakota, where he spent his time exploring his late grandparents’ farm and ranch operation and enjoying the outdoors.
Keith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science and a Master of Science degree in Wildlife Science, both from South Dakota State University. His master’s research focused on the evaluation of nest survival of nearly 2,000 nests of grassland nesting ducks, ring-necked pheasants, and other upland nesting birds in relation to landscape variables. Keith brings over 20 years of experience working cooperatively with South Dakota’s landowners, producers, and stakeholders through previous experience with both the US Fish and Wildlife Service and South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks. Before coming to Audubon, he held various positions including wildlife biologist, assistant to legal counsel, and served as the administrator of several statewide programs.
Keith lives in Pierre, SD with his wife and two daughters where they operate a small cow-calf operation on native prairie in central South Dakota. His excitement for birds and grassland plants is instilled in his two daughters when exploring the prairie. Keith spends his free time managing cattle and pursuing his outdoor passions.
