Peter Ellis currently occupies two roles. He leads Audubon's Futures Initiative, which asks the question: what is Audubon's bird-powered conservation niche for the future? He also co-leads (together with The Nature Conservancy and Yale University) the SHIFT CM Collaboration which brings integrity and efficiency to natural climate solutions (NCS) crediting through applied research.
Prior to joining Audubon, Peter led the NCS Science team at The Nature Conservancy, which conducted research to motivate and inform the design and implementation of natural climate solutions. For example, Peter investigated the climate and biodiversity impacts of forest management, and worked with conservation practitioners and foresters across the world to measure the climate performance of reduced impact logging. Peter also worked as a forester and ecologist at the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Gabon. He received a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a M.S. from the Field Naturalist Program at the University of Vermont. He is trained as a field forester, forest ecologist, botanist, and geospatial scientist.
