Sarah Hooghuis

Senior Coordinator, Youth Conservation Leadership Program
About

Sarah grew up in Connecticut and earned a BA in Environmental Studies from Skidmore College. As a child, they could often be found exploring streams and woods. Sarah's love of birds developed later in life, sparked by a Steller’s Jay they encountered in Colorado. From that moment, a bird guide and binoculars became essential companions on every walk. Before joining the team, Sarah served as the Outreach and Education AmeriCorps member from 2019 to 2021 and returned in winter 2022 as a Sugaring Assistant for our bird-friendly maple syrup operation. With a decade of experience in environmental education and communications, Sarah brings a wealth of expertise to their current role.

A lifelong learner and naturalist, Sarah is passionate about absorbing as much knowledge as possible about the natural world. They are excited to return to Audubon Vermont, where they can help provide youth across the state with opportunities to engage in environmental conservation.
