Stephen Brenner

Avian Biologist
About

Stephen began working with Audubon in 2021. Stephen leads and collaborates on a variety of avian research projects across Nebraska, with a particular focus on species breeding at range-edge, grassland birds, and migration ecology. He is currently based out of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, in the western panhandle of the state. Stephen came to Audubon after three years with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and continues to collaborate with the agency in his current role.

Originally from Buffalo, NY, Stephen earned his bachelor’s degree from Penn State and later his master’s from the University of Rhode Island studying the effects of forest management on American Woodcock and Eastern Towhees. Steve has worked a wide variety of field-research jobs across the country and the globe and continues to be amazed by the lives of migratory birds. While his upbringing and academic pursuits have largely focused on the Northeast, he has quickly taken to the expansive open spaces and ecological diversity found across the state of Nebraska.
