Education and Outreach at Rio Salado

Our Goals
Encourage visitors to explore, learn, and take action to preserve local wildlife and their habitats.
What We’re Doing
Audubon leads programs throughout the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area and wider community, teaching participants about desert and riparian wildlife, with a focus on birds, plants, and our connection to nature.

Students

We offer interactive STEAM programs both in-school and at the center. Field trip programs like Nature in Your Neighborhood help students discover Sonoran Desert wildlife through standards-based exploration. Students can participate in up to three modules, including Guided Nature Outing, Mammals of Arizona, Science & Art Collide, and Bird Beak Adaptation Investigation.

Modules are also available individually for shorter lessons. We provide programs for K-12, homeschool groups, Girl Scout patch programs, and tailor made programs for other audiences. Learn more about our offerings or contact us for booking and pricing at riosalado@audubon.org or call 602-468-6470.

Visitors

Explore the Rio Salado habitat through family workshops and guided programs that highlight local wildlife, plants, and the unique desert and riparian ecosystems. Our programs include themed family workshops, art sessions, guided bird walks, and mindful birding experiences. Find all programs and events here

In the Community

We take our programs beyond the Audubon Center, bringing engaging, hands-on learning and informative talks directly to the community. Our outreach programs help share Audubon’s work, highlight local birds and wildlife, and inspire appreciation for nature and conservation. Offsite presentations can be scheduled for schools, community centers, festivals, or other groups, with program length and format tailored to meet each group’s needs.
