Birding is for everyone! Our guided community walks are perfect whether you are a novice birder, or a seasoned life-lister. Discover the birds, plants, and wildlife that call the Rio Salado home while enjoying a morning outdoors with passionate guides who share their knowledge and love of nature with you.
No equipment or experienced is required, we have plenty of both to share with you. Binoculars are available to check-out for free. Walks move at a relaxed pace, covering 1 to 2 miles at most over a combination of cement sidewalks, gravel paths, and dirt trails. Walks are available in English or Spanish if requested. These free, community bird and nature walks are offered September to April, pending weather and holiday closures.

These calm, guided walks are designed to be accessible and welcoming for everyone, with an even more relaxed walk than our Saturday program. Together, we’ll explore our native plant pollinator garden, nature trails, observe wildlife, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the desert and riparian ecosystems. Participants move slowly, pausing to use their senses to fully take in the natural surroundings, and sometimes sitting quietly to observe birds and absorb the wonder of our wildlife. Please reach out with any accessibility needs so we can ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all. These free nature walks are offered September to April, pending weather and holiday closures.

4th Saturday of the month, 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM (cooler months only)
Kids and families are invited to get outside, explore the trails and gardens, and discover wildlife that calls the Rio Salado home. Each guided session begins at 10 AM and lasts about 45 minutes, offering an easy and enjoyable walk filled with opportunities to spot birds, insects, plants, and more. After the walk, families can stick around for extra hands-on activities, from creative nature crafts to interactive games or additional outdoor exploration, making it a perfect way to learn, play, and connect with nature together. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Best for ages 2-12 but all are welcome! These family programs are offered September to April, pending weather and holiday closures.
