Bird City Texas has been selected as a 2026 Conservation Wrangler by Texas by Nature, a Texas organization founded by First Lady Laura Bush. This statewide recognition will significantly elevate the program over the coming year, as we anticipate certifying a new class of Bird Cities. Read the full story
It caps off a year of real momentum for the program. Texas is home to one of the highest bird species counts in the country and some of the fastest urban growth rates. That combination makes Bird City Texas an essential part of bending the bird curve or halting the decline of bird populations. We are proud of all the work certified cities are doing and energized by the growing excitement from new cities eager to join the effort.
A Growing Network of Champions
Every year, Bird Cities are accomplishing increasingly more and inspiring a new generation of Bird Cities. This year, we hosted a public Bird City Texas Highlights session, where certified cities shared their 2025 updates, including art installations, festivals, volunteer events, and much more. The session generated additional interest and inquiries from new communities looking to join the program. You can see all the amazing work being done by Bird Cities in the highlights video here.
A First-Ever Festival Partnership
This year marked a first-ever festival through a partnership with the Dallas Farmers Market. An estimated 8 - 10 organizations tabled at the market for a "Bird Friendly Community" area, sharing what it takes to become a bird-friendly community. We estimate more than 500 people engaged with the event in some capacity.
Building on this momentum, we hosted a virtual Q&A session with 17 participants representing approximately 12 cities interested in applying to the program.
Together, we're building a growing network of communities committed to birds, one city, one festival, and one partnership at a time.
