As stated in Audubon's Flight Plan, public policy and funding have a catalytic effect on protecting bird habitat and addressing climate change. Policy items like the Farm Bill can benefit Texas agriculture while enhancing bird habitat, and Texas can be a leader on these policy items. That is why this year, Audubon Texas spent time connecting with elected officials across all sectors to familiarize them with the mission to bend the bird curve and create a healthier planet for birds and people alike.
A Year of Relationship Building
Over the course of the fiscal year, we connected or worked on key policy items to help advance the Healthy Bird Healthy Planet agenda, including:
A Record-Breaking Postcard Campaign
The highlight of this fiscal year has been the support of Texas chapters and members who participated in the Local Communities and Birds Stewardship Act postcard campaign. The campaign generated over 200 postcards from Texas to be delivered to Congressional members some of the highest postcard numbers in the country. This has led to the state's senators being top candidates to serve as Republican co-sponsors on the bill.
Outreach like this is helping us advance policy and fund conservation with solutions equal to the scale of the challenges we face. Stay tuned for how you can continue to help us bend the bird curve through policy engagement for the rest of 2026 and 2027.
