SAN ANTONIO— Mitchell Lake Audubon Center (MLAC) today announced the appointment of Anna Macnak as its new Executive Director. A mission-driven leader with more than a decade of public health and community program management experience with the City of San Antonio, Macnak brings a proven track record of building institutional partnerships, advancing equity-focused initiatives, and leading high-performing teams.

Macnak most recently served as Health Program Manager for the City of San Antonio where she provided strategic leadership for the Healthy Neighborhoods Program. Her work focused on community health, food security, and neighborhood resilience through a Community Health Worker model of engagement.

"We're thrilled to have Anna join the Audubon team, bringing her lifelong passion for connecting people with the natural world to the organization," said Lisa Gonzalez, Vice President and Executive Director of Audubon Texas. "Her expansive work across San Antonio and her experience building community-centered programs will be invaluable as Mitchell Lake Audubon Center continues to grow its mission. We look forward to all she will bring to this organization and to the broader Audubon family."

Macnak grew up in Southeast Alaska where her early experiences hiking and camping in the Tongass National Forest sparked a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship and outdoor connection. A Texas Master Naturalist, she holds a Graduate Certificate in Public Health from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Science from Bastyr University.

Mitchell Lake Audubon Center, located in south San Antonio and situated along the Central Flyway, is one of the most significant urban birding and wildlife destinations in Texas. MLAC provides environmental education, habitat restoration, and community engagement programming, and serves as an important access point to nature for historically underserved communities. For more information, visit https://www.audubon.org/mitchell-lake.
